Eleventh Sunday of Pentecost

God Uses the Useless to Give Us Shade

Jeremiah 23: 28

Even though straw has little value for food - even for animals - and appears to us to be totally useless, it makes wonderful hats to keep our heads cool when the sun it at its hottest. The wonder of God's creation is that even the most useless object can be extremely useful, often in ways beyond our imagining.

Buy one inexpensive straw hat or cap (from the 99-cent store or craft store) for each child.

Using a glue gun, decorate each hat with wheat, oats, fruit, or flowers.

For small children, you may need to add ties or padding inside the crown so the hats will fit.
