Second Sunday of Pentecost

Jesus Tells the Storm to Be Quiet

Mark 4: 35 - 41

Matthew 8: 23 - 27

Luke 8: 22 - 25

God created everything, and God rules everything.

One of the ways that we know Jesus is Lord is that he has power over the natural world.

Just as God the Father spoke, and with his Word created the world, Jesus speaks, and the storm is silent.

This trip is one more of Jesus' journeys across the Sea of Galilee in Palestine. This time he is going from the Jewish side of the lake to the Gentile side, to Gadara.

1. Where did Jesus want to go?

[Jesus wanted to go to the east side of the lake.]

2. Who went with Jesus?

[The disciples were in the same boat with Jesus. Some other boats also followed along.]

3. What did Jesus tell the wind and the waves to do?

[Jesus told the wind and the waves to be quiet.]

4. What did Jesus ask the disciples?

[Jesus asked, "Why were you afraid? Don't you have any faith?"]

5. What did the disciples say to each other?

[The disciples said, "Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him."]
