The Twenty-fifth Sunday of Pentecost

Young Women Prepare for a Wedding

Matthew 25: 1 - 13

This parable also begins with "the kingdom of heaven is like."

Weddings were large social occasions for the extended family and often went on for days, so thorough preparation beforehand was necessary.

This story reminds us that eternity begins now, in our everyday lives on earth, not when we enter into heaven.

An older class might enjoy Jonathan Edwards' "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God," about people who had all sorts of intentions to do good works, but who just ran out of time.

1. What did the foolish girls do to prepare for the wedding?

3. What did the foolish girls have to do?

[The foolish girls had to leave the wedding to buy extra oil.]

4. What happened when the foolish girls cam back?

[The foolish girls were locked out of the wedding.]
